S01E14 - A different take on disappointment - Inevitably Great

What isn't...actually isn't!

In today's episode of "Inevitably Great," I'm reaching out from behind the wheel to delve into a feeling many of us are familiar with—disappointment. It's that stark realization of the difference between what is and what could have been, stirring up emotions of injustice and tension. And while it's easy to feel overwhelmed by these emotions, I've found a perspective that provides some solace. I've come to see that the alternatives we imagine—the could-haves and should-haves—are figments of our imagination, never really possibilities at all. I liken this realization to being handed two envelopes: one with a dream opportunity and another less appealing. When the dream seemingly slips away, it feels devastating. Yet, if we knew the dream envelope was empty all along, our grief would lessen. The imagined alternatives, no matter how vivid, are just that—imagined. Recognizing this doesn't erase disappointment, but it can diminish its hold on us, making it less scary because we know it's coming from something we made up.

What if one insight could make performing at your best inevitable, every single time?
The difference between thriving and struggling is in the reality you see in the moment.
Not your character, not your mental strength, not luck, not your experience, not your story, not your personality. Only whatever happens to look real to you there and then.
This is why one insight can change your life forever, by changing your relationship with that reality.
Good news: you're an insight machine. You only need to know where to look.
